Therapy for Complex Trauma

“Everything you judge about yourself served a purpose at the time. “
Dr. Gabor Mate

You feel disconnected from the pieces of your life.

I feel disconnected from myself and my body. I know that self is in there and wants to come out, but I don’t know how to get there.

Sometimes in my daily life, I lose time or have feelings that don’t match what is going on around me.

The pieces of my life don’t seem to fit together. I can’t always remember when events took place or who was there. Some parts of my past seem fuzzy and they don’t fit in my timeline.

I don’t feel safe even though there’s no threat around me. I don’t feel safe around certain people or in certain situations and I don’t know why.

Sometimes people think my reactions are totally out of order for the situation. The effects of my reactions have hurt my relationships, or affected my ability to function at my job or in my daily life.

I think I’m realizing that I don’t actually know who I am and that I never got the chance to figure that out. Something is holding me back from connecting the pieces.

Complex trauma can make you feel detached from yourself and your feelings.

Trauma can result from a single event, but more often, it comes from a long period of challenging or even devastating circumstances.

Often, we can only see that there is trauma through its effects, which is the feeling of disconnection or erratic feelings and behaviors, usually beyond our control.

These experiences can prevent us from feeling like our lives our whole, or even that we know who we are.

Therapy helps to untangle the trauma knots and to find ourselves

In therapy, you will reconnect to your body and yourself, develop coping tools for situations that lead to trauma responses, and to develop strategies to help you feel safe.

We will slowly and safely begin to pull on the strings that have tied you to traumatic experiences, and to figure out what happened in your life and it has impacted your ability to be yourself and live authentically.

We will see how the patterns in your life led you to build a range of coping tools. These tools once worked to keep you safe, but they are not working anymore. These coping tools repeat themselves across different areas in your life, and in your relationships with friends, partners, co-workers, and family.

We will work to connect the different pieces of yourself and your history, and to help you feel that you are a whole person. We will slowly build you a set of healthy tools that work for you to feel strong in your identity, to build balanced and supportive relationships, and to experience your world as inviting and engaging.

Let’s put together the pieces to help you find your true Self.
