Our administrative office hours are Monday-Friday 9am – 6pm. If you call, email, or text, please allow one business day for a response.

Our therapists see clients Sunday – Friday 9am – 9pm.

  • Do you take insurance?

We are considered an out-of-network mental health provider by all insurance providers.

What this means for you is that the work we do together, often stays between you and your therapist. It also means that you can pace our treatment in ways that are governed by your needs and not by the managed medical care system. Which otherwise would be dictated by your insurance company.

  • How do I know if my insurance company will reimburse me for sessions?

While we can’t advise you on what insurance plan to select, if you would like to have your out-of-network (OON) therapy services reimbursed through your insurance plan we recommend considering the following information. • What age ranges do you work with?

We work with adults, teens, & pre-teens. While we currently do not work with children, we have some skilled colleagues who do. Please email us for referrals.

  • Do you work with individuals or couples? What about gender, sexuality, and relationship styles?

We work with individuals, couples, and partners in non-monogamous relationships of all genders and sexualities. Whether romantic, sexual, familial, or platonic, our choices of relationships often define how we experience the world. So, let’s talk about developing healthy relationships in whatever style fits you best.

  • What do you do in sessions with clients?

In therapy, we will focus on the areas where you want to grow and reach your personal goals. Each session is designed specifically for you and how you learn and process best. We will spend most of our time talking through things. We’ll ask many questions, and we’ll work together to help find new tools that work for you to apply in your daily life.

  • What will our relationship be like in therapy?

Our sessions are about you, and our focus is on you. We are professionals here to help you, not someone who requires anything from you.

It blows us away how many clients come to us and say, “I had to leave my last therapist because they were treating me like a friend, telling me they saw me as their child or told me too much about how their experience was just like mine.” First, props to everyone who leaves a therapist that makes you uncomfortable. Second, a therapist should not be doing anything like that. You come to therapy to heal, process, and grow.

As your therapist, we are always on your side and always are here to help your meet your goals. We are responsible for creating a psychologically safe space where you don’t feel obligated to care for or perform for me.

  • Do your clients receive assignments between sessions?

Yes! Therapy doesn’t just happen in the office; it will become a big part of how you approach your life. Again, we will curate the best approach for you, but these assignments will give you new ways to reflect on what’s happening to you, care for yourself, and provide you with new information relevant to your experiences.

If we suggest something you don’t like or end up not having time to do the homework between sessions, it’s ok. We’ll talk about it and find strategies that work for you outside of therapy or discuss the barriers that prevent you from taking care of yourself and your growth during the week.

  • Will it always be serious and depressing?

No! Laughter is so important to our mental health, and we will laugh in therapy. We know you’re funny, and that’s a huge strength we will use, even if you are the type of person who uses humor to avoid feelings. You can experience all your emotions and keep your sense of humor!

  • What's your professional training and experience?

All therapists have been through Master’s Degree programs, have completed clinical internship hours, and are registered with the California Board of Behavioral Science (BBS).

Our licensed therapists have completed 3,000 hours of post-graduate work and most have years of experience and additional specialty training beyond that.

Our associate therapists are Master’s Degree graduates currently in process of accuring their 3,000 supervised hours. All associate therapists are clinically supervised by Kristen Crowe LPCC & Renae Johnson LPCC.

Check out the Meet Our Team page to learn more.

  • What modalities do you use?

We are a group of trauma-informed, queer- and trans-knowledgeable therapists. We come from a client-centered and strengths-based approach. Our therapists have a range of different specialties, like Somatic Focusing, Art Therapy, and Dance/Movement Therapy among many more. Our goal is to have a therapist that will click with you and what you need, check out our Meet Our Team page to see who would be a good fit.

  • Will you have a clipboard and judge me?

While there are therapists like this, we are not them. We also won’t sit there stoically and say, “Yeah, uh-huh”. Our therapists are vibrant humans who will actively join you in your therapy process to make your therapy process engaging and successful.

We are also humans in the world, are a part of your community, and we will show up as our authentic selves when we meet. We are warm, transparent, and direct. Your experience and feelings are real and important. We will validate you while compassionately challenging you to grow – whether that’s re-parenting yourself, addressing toxic relationship dynamics, processing through feelings that you’ve been avoiding, or finding new ways to know yourself more fully.

  • Why do OSTC therapist have different session fees?

Our therapist’s session fees reflect their licensure status, experience, specialization, and education. We raise our fees annually to reflect our therapist’s increased skill and to reflect inflation.

  • What if my dog needs therapy, too?

While we can’t treat your dog, they are welcome to join us during our sessions. Animals are a gift and can be a big part of our self-care routine.
